In an era where hype and exposure is high on the agenda, Keri McInerney has quietly pulled off a coup all of her own. Radio airplay in the states, to be precise.
East Coast and Florida radio have picked up I Know What You Want, from the Australian artist’s latest album Stay, and hung on to it since November last year.
A quirky knack for delivering a good album, a quintessential vocalist and songwriter Keri McInerney has worked for two years to put together the best combinations of song, production and musicianship to deliver the best.
A high achiever Keri has managed to get it right in the music industry essentially since her debut album, Fool’s Game from the first hit single Out on Our Verandah, where she was acclaimed a breath of fresh air leaving the industry asking ‘who was this singer from Hervey Bay’.
Her second album Love’s A Crazy Thing, produced five hit singles the self titled Love’s A Crazy Thing, He’s No Good, When Love Walked In, Lonely Life and the standout track Exactly How I Feel, another original, this time with Michael O’Rourke, voted a TIARA Independent Artist Collaboration Award. Her third album ‘The One’ became a Top Ten hit in itself, adding to a growing list and later becoming the benchmarks Keri worked hard to achieve in her fourth album.
Stay delivers the whole package plus.
The combination of talents from some of the best Australia has to offer, the essence of magic from Michael Fix, difficult to describe ranging from gusto to maestro, is the perfect balance in sophistication for this album, and teams brilliantly with the production and musicianship from long time associate and music mentor Steve Tebbett, and the knowing contributions of Michael Flanders, Jason Millhouse, Vaughn Jones and fiddler player Savannah Jo Lack.
Stay has already produced singles like ‘For Your Love’ the debut single on NfS in Australia, the risk taking retro ‘Stuck In the Middle With You’ with Michael O’Rourke and Steve Eales an Australian Top 10 charting hit single, also released on NfS, and still getting airplay in Europe, and now ‘I Know What You Want’, playing to rave responses in the United States, on the east coast, California and in Florida.
One can only wonder the response from the urban sophisticated West Coast market, perfect for this album, and where news Keri says, is travelling fast.
‘I am gaining airplay in Beverly Hills, California on Twitter Live Radio which is also of course linked internationally on Twitter’
‘Radio in Philadelphia loves Know What You Want , where the song got picked up by as the leading breakfast show theme song.’
‘Miami Florida also has major interest in my music with connections to shows USA wide.
A serious contender in online radio charts in the US and country music programming on Australian radio, Stay and the standout singles I Know What You Want, Walk In My Shoes, and the seriously superb Tickin are some of Keri’s best work.
The success however, comes with a price. Keri was back in hospital last week, recovering on Friday from extensive surgery. Her second bout with doctors and hospital in the last three years, adding to an already difficult year with a death in the family in January.
‘I will be back on deck as soon as I get the ok from doctors. It’s a shame this is happening as I have had a couple of scares, but my music keeps me keen as mustard to get back performing as soon as possible.’ an ever optimistic Keri said last week.
