Hervey Bay's Keri McInerney's inspiration for the song was her father, who died of lung cancer almost five years ago.

“Whenever I perform it is quite emotive,” she said.

“There are a lot of metaphors within the song.

“I didn't know he was ill. I went to his house and it is about the experience of going into that room. It was a heavy experience.”

The sounds of the song, which is on her new album, Stay, was true to her country roots, McInerney said, but it also had a slight rock edge.

The song showcases her vocal and song writing talents, described as being a country and soft rock classic.

The track has been called the standout song on her album and McInerney said she believed this to be true.

McInerney, who earlier this year won one gold and three silver medals at the World Championships of Performing Arts, said the album, and in particular the latest single, received a good response from reviewers.

Michael Flanders, Steve Tebbett, Jason Millhouse, Savannah Jo Lack, Vaughn Jones, Billy Williams and Jon Forbes all contributed to making the single come to life.
